ABSTRACT

In Brazil, there are no breeding colonies of tropical or subtropical pinnipeds and the presence of some species are observed more frequently in the southeastern and southern regions, from June to October, due to their post-reproductive movements, especially driven by the cold current of the Malvinas (Pinedo 1990, Simões-Lopes et al. 1995, Oliveira et al. 2006). Additionally, some species, such as the South American sea lion (Otaria flavescens), have marked seasonality (Simões-Lopes et al. 1995).
