Modification of Polylactic Acid (PLA) and its Industrial Applications

CESA-extend polymeric chain extenders comprise a portfolio of low and high functionalities that allow molecular weight modifications in a much larger processing window. However, it can be said that the amount of chain extender (CESA) has a significant effect on the melt viscosity and the melt strength, which provides more processing degree of freedom. The chain extender and catalysis chain extender showed a significant effect on the molecular weight of Polylactic Acid (PLA). Therefore, it could be summarized that the chain extender extended short chain of PLA and resulted in the increase of molecular weight. The first and most obvious are those fluids that chemically attack and irreversibly degrade the polymer by means of oxidation, chlorination, and hydrolysis, and which lead to chemical modification, chain scission, and cross linking. It is a copolymer of ethylene-acrylate and was developed to improve the toughness of PLA in packaging and industrial applications.
