Feature Extraction from Light Detection and Ranging Data in Urban Areas
This chapter focuses on the line and surface extraction from Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data over urban areas. It elaborates the procedure of surface extraction by using Hough transform and the estimation of its parameters. To overcome the limitations of LiDAR data, this chapter also introduces images in conjunct with LiDAR data for the same purpose to achieve accurate and reliable outcome. Results on building roof extraction are presented based on the described methods.
