ABSTRACT

This chapter intends to present the energy-efficient health assessment in wireless body sensor networks (WBSNs). Energy-efficient communication in medical emergency scenarios has a significant impact on the health response delivery in any situation. WBSN is a promising technology having the capability to improve the previous medical monitoring techniques to assess the critical conditions of patients. This widely adopted technology can also overcome the hurdles faced by specialist physician during the diagnosis of critical-conditioned patients in the past. WBSN deals with these initial interruptions with the immense support of video and bio-signals such as 12-lead electrocardiogram (12-lead ECG) transmission at anywhere. Communication in WBSNs is challenged by transmission energy consumption, battery lifetime of nodes, and human body motion or posture changes in a highly dynamic environment. That is why our major focus is on the key problems related to energy-efficiency in WBSN.
