ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on the diverse new migrations from mainland China. It describes a cross-spectrum of new Chinese migrations within the Hong Kong (HK)–China–Taiwan triangle. The book explains: new migrants from mainland China; the HK–Taiwan–China migration triangle; and the ongoing migration of Chinese overseas from Southeast Asia. It contrasts and compares the new People's Republic of China (PRC) migrants with Chinese migrant cohorts from southern Chinese provinces and HK. It illuminates the long-term trust between people of the two socialist countries and how this two-way mobility and connections will, in the long run, help China gain access to the abundant resources in the Arab world and promote its strategic positions in global politics.
