ABSTRACT

This chapter explores Yemen–China migrations as a case study for understanding the transnational Sino–Arab circuit. It discusses Chinese migration to Yemen catering for the provision of humanitarian aid and reconstruction relief. The chapter explores a growing Yemeni presence in China. It highlights the two-way connections resulting from Chinese migration to Yemen and vice versa. The chapter discusses how a new 'Silk Road network' should include a full viewing of 'China in the Arab world' as well as 'the Arab world in China', forming a transnational circuit for the Silk Road revival. It explains why there is such an emerging Sino–Arab connection, which also hints at China's influential positions in the Middle East. The chapter increases the number of Yemini migrants in China, which is linked to and is a subsequent development of China's earlier humanitarian support and Chinese migration to Yemen. China has made an intriguingly strong commitment to Yemen since the 1950s.
