ABSTRACT

I became the Head of the Division of Vector-Borne Diseases (DVBD) in the Ministry of Health in this country in 1980 for about five years. Yes, I was in charge. Because the Institute was growing I was able to develop some additional learning facilities and local laboratory facilities through the Division of Vector-Borne Diseases. Yes, I established laboratories throughout the country. If you go to Kwale, we had a lab there. If you want to go to Busia, there was a laboratory. If you want to go to Turkana, even there we had a laboratory. Wherever you went, we had developed a laboratory. My work at the DVBD further assisted the development of both the Walter Reed Project and the CDC because they both too used the facilities of the Division of Vector-Borne Diseases in Kisumu. That site was the first field laboratory for the US Centers for Disease Control.
