ABSTRACT

Based on the MODIS the Vegetation Coverage (VC) of the Three-North Shelterbelt Project in 2005, 2010 and 2015 was deduced by the binary model based on the normalized vegetation index. The results show that: 1) The VC of the three-North project area in 2005 is 34.93%, in 2010 is 39.88%, in 2015 is 42.24%. There was a significant increase in the VC of the Three-north Shelterbelt in 2005–2015, but the growth rate was decreased. 2) The VC in the northwest of the Three North Shelterbelt is the lowest, and the VC in most areas is below 40%, which is low coverage type. The VC in the northeastern region is over 60%, which is the high coverage type. 3) The VC in the Mengxin area was the lowest, the northern part of North China is the highest. The VC’s growning of the Loess Plateau is the fastest in the hilly and gully region.
