Sport psychology research and practice is largely focused on better understanding and improving the quality of life and performance of high-level performers. This relatively narrow focus overlooks a key group of individuals participating in sport who devote large amounts of time and energy to training and competing in their free time, this group can be referred to as recreational athletes. The chapter will cover the differences between elite and recreational athletes, discuss how recreational endurance athletes can benefit from sport psychology resources, and introduce the reader to a model of service provision focused on providing such resources called “psyching teams.”
