ABSTRACT
This chapter is concerned with technical aspects of photography, which certainly are important. Crime Scene Investigations (CSIs) must master their particular camera system and understand technical camera operation in order to operate in crime scenes and produce functional crime scene photographs. Crime scene photography is the bread and butter of the crime scene documentation. Crime scene photographs are intended to lead the viewer of the photographs through the scene, from an overall perspective right up to the details of specific items of evidence. Good-quality photographs for any pursuit, including crime scene work require: Physical control of the camera, Proper use of the cameras controls such as aperture, shutter speed and lens, and Proper composition. As a result, the CSI ultimately takes a number of photographs at the scene that create significant comprehension problems for the viewer, including: Identification problems, Orientation problems, and Incomplete documentation.
