ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book describes as a “journey” at the outset, and it has been one that has constructed a kind of three-part sandwich for us, with practical research being placed between contextual issues of theory and reflections on outcomes, which take forward our thinking about the place of reflexivity in language-based research. It addresses both the multifarious forms of language and their respective effects. The book establishes link between philosophy and anthropology within which Bourdieu’s method situates itself— somewhat precariously. It explores the “levels” that researchers have to go through in their thinking and practice— and this scheme was partly derived from empirical observations and personal experience. The book explores beyond the concerns of language ethnographers and their particular methods.
