ABSTRACT

This work presents a comparative study, between a superstructure rail bridge design, witch beams designed in prestressed concrete and an alternative composed by two steel “I” profile beams and it’s bracings. The reinforced concrete slab stiffness is considered to the mixed section.

This rail bridge design was developed to the Vale do Rio Doce Company, and integrates the railroad Vitória x Minas, an very important railroad of transportation of iron ore, that interconnects Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo states.

On the structural design, was used the NBR 8800:2008, as well as all of it’s recommendations, including all needed prescribed verifications and structural Analysis software.

On this study, is presented the structural design of the longitudinal beams with “I” welded flanges, and in the end an comparative costs table between the adopted option (with prestressed logitudinal beams) and the proposal alternative with mixed framework steel x concrete.
