ABSTRACT

Numerous chapters of this book have highlighted the importance of applied research – that is, research with a focus on identifying, implementing, and/or evaluating real-world strategies to solve a crime/policing problem. However, conducting applied research in a policing context brings with it a number of challenges that need to be considered before developing and conducting well-rounded and realistic research that is relevant to operational policing. This chapter outlines a series of tips for conducting applied research in this area. It is aimed to support both researchers and practitioners to develop and deliver good-quality collaborative research.
