ABSTRACT

When considering what ‘ageing’ means for people living with HIV, the age of 50 is increasingly used to record and analyse statistical information and is considered an age where people living with HIV are most at risk of developing HIV-related co-morbidities, such as cardiovascular disease. Older people are the fastest growing group of people living with HIV, with their care needs being explored within the scientific community in order to ensure safe, effective care. What is becoming increasingly more apparent is that within HIV care, interdisciplinary working is becoming critical to the sharing of knowledge and expertise when treating older people living with HIV. Within this chapter we will explore the concept of ageing further, highlighting its multiple meanings for different people and highlight how ageing affects the quality of life for people ageing with HIV.
