Media Architecture

Post Screens, Ante [Insert Here]
WithHank Haeusler

In this chapter, I discuss the transition of media architecture parallel to a transition in architectural design from planar to spline-based and data-driven. This transition is argued for by presenting the theoretical context as well as discussing a series of prototypes and installations that were designed between 2009 and 2016 by the author and collaborators. This chapter will introduce the reader to media façades, an urban media phenomenon, by discussing key aspects and existing knowledge from an architectural and façade technology. Finally, this entry will look into relevant trends in other related fields so as to better understand new developing interface(s) between the physical and the digital in a potentially post-screen era, as well as pondering the potential consequences these new interfaces might have for the urban fabric such as streets and public spaces.
