ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the photonic switch architecture system and its development. Photonic switches are the key to realizing high-performance systems. Photonic switch architectures can be classified into three types: space division, time division packet, and Add Drop Multiplexer. Wavelength division routing is more suitable for cell switching than space division switching. In addition, the ATM cell buffer configuration is discussed. The architecture, system configuration, and implementation method are examined. The concept combines wavelength with multiplexed pilot tone frequencies. Experimental results show the feasibility of the proposed optical label discrimination process and optical label conversion process. The switch has a maximum throughput of 320 Gbit/s. It features a WDM star-based switch architecture, an electrical control circuit layer, and a high-speed optical WDM layer.
