ABSTRACT

When an electrostatic potential VGS is applied between the “gate” terminal and ground, it induces an electric ¢eld transverse to the channel (in the y direction). ¡is electric ¢eld induces Rashba spin-orbit interaction in the channel [2], which produces an e«ective magnetic ¢eld that is oriented in a direction mutually perpendicular to the direction of current ¦ow and the gate-induced electric ¢eld. Since we have a strictly 1D channel, current ¦ows only in the x direction. ¡erefore, the e«ective magnetic ¢eld of ¦ux density BRashba is directed along the z direction. Because of the one-dimensionality of the channel, the axis of this magnetic ¢eld is xed and always points along the z-axis.
