ABSTRACT
Purpose, method, and endstate are components of the concept of a commander’s intent purported in the 1996 version of the U.S. Army’s document titled, Field Manual 100-5 (FM 100-5).1 The basic premise is that once military commanders state their intent, all other matters are subordinate and become supplementary information. Intent is a format or framework for command and information operations in the eld.
