ABSTRACT

Dying is not a neurosis. Individuals dealing with multiple deaths due to or acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) are likely to lose sight of this fact as they struggle with grieving one death after another. Even though people tend to think in terms of death as a loss, death is not the only loss people can experience. Each of us has lived through many different kinds of loss— from moving from them self home, changing them self job, losing a wellet with all them self credit cards, or having a pet die, to the very powerful impact of the death of a beloved person. Loss and separation can also occur at many levels. For example, when a child starts school the separation from mother and home can be quite traumatic. If the family moves there is a separation from the community and a loss of friends and familiar places.
