ABSTRACT

The preceding excerpts are considers quite representative of the reports of tens of thousands of near–death experiences (NDEs) of individuals from around the world. It is perceived as the beginning of a new life, the experience of the presence of a Supreme Being or of incredible love. Recent estimates indicate that about a third of all individuals who come close to death have NDEs. Several studies have determined a number of correlates of these experiences. Several researchers have investigated the possible effects of social conditioning through cross–cultural studies of the societies of China, India, Australia, the South Pacific, and of Native Americans. Individuals who have had NDEs appear to be psychologically healthy and indistinguishable from others of the age, gender, race, or religion. The literature on the consequences of NDEs reveals an overwhelmingly positive impact, but a number of negative aftereffects also have noted. The NDE is indeed a call to awaken, the luminosity is the catalyst for the awakening.
