Hypnotic Death and Suicide Rehearsal
WithAlexander A. Levitan
Pages 14

Hypnotic death rehearsal is a technique initially developed to help patients imminently facing death (Levitan, 1985). It has since been utilized to help many individuals who have particular concerns relative to death and the dying process. The basic rationale of the technique is that humans characteristically and sometimes appropriately have a significant fear of the unknown. Once something has been experienced, however, either through hypnosis or imagery, it becomes more familiar and thus less fear-provoking.
