ABSTRACT

The key words should be used to establish the sequence of topics. The emphasis on conversation is important, since habit is in large part responsible for poor diction. Audiences respond with great interest to the display of hardware. Museums and libraries will often lend such material without cost. An excellent example of novelty was a student’s use of a cloth board and cloth “pasties” in a talk on “Beach Erosion and Protection on the New Jersey Shore.” He illustrated wind directions, wave and current directions, sand movements, and various types of shore structures by the simple but clever use of colored cloth geometric shapes which were placed on a large cloth board. Additional board work may be necessary and even desirable to amplify explanations of the key sketches or to respond to specific questions. If considerable board space is available, place the key sketch conspicuously in the center and move to the sides for supplementary work.
