ABSTRACT

Co-written by the leaders of the research team, the introduction presents the topic, focus and central thesis questions of the book. After providing an analytical overview of the relevant scholarly literature and articulating how their project intervenes in it, Kozák and Tóth define the book’s key concepts (cultural/public memory, transatlantic relations), the period (from the late Cold War to the Global War on Terror), and the geographical foci (the United States; Western Europe – France; the U.S. world war cemetery system; Central Europe – the Czech Republic, Hungary). Finally, the authors discuss the theoretical approaches and methodologies of the contributors, highlighting the merits of international, multi-sited and multi-disciplinary collaboration in studies on their topic, period and geographies.
