ABSTRACT
This chapter argues for the establishing of a national Web Trend Index that can provide metrics for how national web domains have developed over time. It is discussed why such an index can be relevant for researchers, web archives, web companies, and civil society as an important source for understanding national webs and their historical development. Finally, it is outlined how a national Web Trend Index can be developed based on a systematic, transparent, and reproducible approach that has organisational support.
