ABSTRACT

Engaging with reward management developments in this dynamic market economy, the ‘story’ – a narrative telling – informed by directly obtained and reflexively assessed knowledge of practice situated in its historical perspective, is set out. A focus is placed, in turn, on the public sector and private sector, with the latter’s telling detailing various significant phases bringing the story up to date. Attention focuses not only on domestic trends across various occupational levels, but also on the consideration of international comparative trends. Qualitative findings from interviews with a sample of relevant managerial representatives in Indian organizations are presented to inform conclusions.
