ABSTRACT

The chapter serves as a corrective to decades of misunderstanding and misuse of Maslow’s seminal theory. By treating his approach to human motivation as a content theory, the role of context and related processes tend to be overlooked with adverse consequences for insights into human motivation and concomitant reward management initiatives. By reuniting Maslow’s motivational drives with a more holistic basis for locating their interpretation and related management, scope is presented for a non-manipulative focus on well-being of people at work and relatedly to achievement of sustainable organizational effectiveness.
