ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews the existing literature on a number of key concepts for this study and seeks to ascertain what is already known about policies and rural development in relation to young people. It also seeks to clarify the use of these concepts (rural development; social exclusion; youth transitions; local labour markets) to assist with later analysis.
