ABSTRACT

Introduction About 47% of the total active female population in Egypt is engaged in agricultural work. Agriculture accounts for 40% of Egypt’s gross domestic product (GDP) and 22% of Egypt’s exports. More than half of Egypt’s population, which reached 64.7 million in 1997 and is growing at the rate of 2.3% per year, live and work in the rural areas, drawing a large part of its livelihood from agriculture.
