ABSTRACT

One of the most striking phenomena of modern times is the great movement and migration of people. In other words, modern times are characterised by a formidable interpenetration of symbols, cultures and values. This phenomenon is seen by many as an inevitable outcome of globalization. It creates an encounter of diversities where the clash and interfertilization of cultures create the possibility of greater awareness of otherness and greater understanding (Koser and Lutz, 1998).
