ABSTRACT

In Chapter 2 we reviewed published standards and guidelines of project management (e.g. PMBOK, PRINCE2, ISO 10006 and BS6079) to explore as widely as possible the dimensions and definitions of quality in project management. In this chapter, these standards and guidelines are reviewed to examine how quality is applied and practiced in project management. As the scope of this book is focused on project quality, we examine the guidelines in the bodies of knowledge that are most relevant to project quality. As discussed in Chapter 2, ISO 10006 is an ineffective follower of PMBOK and BS6979 is more aligned with PRINCE2. Hence the relevant guidelines in PRINCE2 (2002, 2009) and PMBOK (2004, 2008) are analysed in this chapter with particular reference to the three dimensions of quality – product, process and organisation.
