ABSTRACT
The addition of a new child to the family through adoption changes the family system forever, and is an outstanding milestone in the family life cycle. Like any other form of parenting, adoption begins with the hope and expectation of a long and positive adventure. Certainly difficulties will appear along the way, but there will be many rewarding aspects and experiences. In the vast majority of cases, the parent-child relationship will not be at issue and the family will continue its development over time.
