ABSTRACT

Organizations will typically use a variety of formal systems to consider their options and make business decisions. Examples include:

processes for managing the product pipeline, such as Stage-Gate;1 sales funnel processes, including bid-no-bid tools; the S&OP (Sales and Operational Planning) process; capital expenditure approval processes such as FEL (front end loading).

These decision-making systems will generally receive, and review, a proposal or business plan. Clearly, such proposals should discuss the health, and management, of their underpinning intellectual assets, ideally by presenting a fit-for-purpose intellectual asset plan.
