ABSTRACT

A previous study confirmed that changing a driver’s grip position impairs drivers’ maintenance of an appropriate steering angle. Therefore, we developed the bar-type steering system with a low steering gear ratio. Adjusting the steering reaction of bar-type steering reduced the difficulty of steering with a low steering gear ratio at high speed. We designed a reactive torque control system to improve maneuverability and verified its performance using a driving simulator. Here, we report the maneuverability of bar-type steering at high speeds.
