ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate the steering control method of the Steer-by-Wire system in order to realize a desirable vehicle performance for drivers. A control law for the steering angle and torque that is effective in a high speed lane change is proposed in this paper. Because of the close relationship between the driver and the control system, it is necessary to consider the effect of the control system on drivers to evaluate the validity of the control. In order to evaluate the proposed control method for the Steer-by-Wire system, evaluation tests using a driving simulator were conducted. The relationship between the driver and the control system were evaluated from a view point of the steering angle in the steering correction process and the convergency of the yaw rate. From these test results, it is shown that the proposed control method were effective for the handling performance.
