ABSTRACT

An adaptive power management strategy (PMS) based on the equivalent fuel consumption minimization strategy (ECMS) is developed for a four-mode PHEV in this paper. The four-mode PHEV which consists of an internal combustion engine (ICE) and two motors provides four modes of operation, including electric vehicle mode, range extended mode, parallel mode and power split mode. A self-organizing fuzzy controller is employed to adaptively adjust the equivalence factor of electric energy consumption based on the SOC deviation and the change of SOC deviation. A cost function of instantaneous fuel consumption is minimized to obtain the optimum power distributions of the ICE and motors. Simulation results show that the adaptive PMS can effectively improve the fuel economy for different driving cycles and reduce the average charging/discharging power for extending the battery life.
