ABSTRACT

Older Adults (OAs) are a key physical activity (PA) and health priority. We explore the definitions of OA, the PA recommendations and levels of participation. We make the case for promoting PA with OA including, the health consequences of physical inactivity, alongside the health benefits. For OA, the adoption of PA is predicated by significant and wide-ranging determinants. In this respect and recognising the complex and specific needs that OAs have when adopting and maintaining PA, we share the key considerations for promoting and implementing PA interventions using case studies that are also framed by theoretical frameworks and guidance.
