ABSTRACT

Courbevoie pleased Firmin Leautaud so much that in 1884, two years after his arrival, he bought, or had built, a house there. It was a solid, square, one-storey building at No. 44 Rue de l’Ouest, since renamed the Rue Eugene Caron. The man who gave his name to the street was, by coincidence, also an actor who lived a few houses away. Like Firmin, Eugene Caron was to die at his home in the Rue de l’Ouest. The citizens o f Courbevoie wished to honour these two local celebrities but could not resolve the problem o f which to choose. They drew lots and the name o f Eugene Caron emerged.
