ABSTRACT

Fiji is an archipelago with 322 islands, of which only 106 are inhabited and has a population of 837,271 (2007 census report). Viti Levu, with an area of 10,388 sq. km, is the largest island in the group and accommodates approximately 70 per cent of the population. It is located in the south-west of the Pacific Ocean, approximately 2,797 km north-east of Sydney, Australia and 1,848 km north of Auckland, New Zealand (Fiji Guide, 2014).
