ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to familiarise the reader with some of the most common linkages between migration and health. In this chapter, we look at both encompassing definitions of health and migration. This chapter covers various linkages between migration and health but mostly focuses on the effects of migration (and remittances) on health and nutrition. The chapter is broken down into (1) the effects of migration health outcomes and access to healthcare of migrants in the country of destination; (2) the health of those who stay behind in the country of origin; (3) migration and the spread of communicable diseases; and (4) the health of migrants during travel/in transit and which is linked to section 1 and 3.
