ABSTRACT
Vietnam today is in a state of peace. For four decades following World War II, enmity and strife enveloped the country: the people of Vietnam took up arms against the French, the Americans, the Cambodians, the Chinese, and their brother Vietnamese. But these bitter conflicts gave way to the struggle by Vietnam to lift its economy to the level of dynamism that has set the formerly poor countries in East Asia on the road to prosperity.
