ABSTRACT
Persistence models appropriate for the online learner population to provide the foundation for understanding important academic factors that impact learner persistence are discussed in this chapter. Additionally, the authors note how building a community of inquiry and providing appropriate scaffolding to support online learners can help them achieve their educational goals. A review of the literature illustrates a number of factors that impact learners’ ability to persist.
