ABSTRACT

The chapter surveys entities that have a stake in assuring quality in postsecondary distance education (DE), examining roles, activities, and impacts. It considers the part played by accreditors—regional, national, and programmatic; highlights the recent activities of the federal and state governments; and reviews the work of other sponsors of approaches to evaluating and certifying DE quality, including colleges and universities, higher education associations, non-profit external validators, and vendors.
