ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on private and for-profit educational institutions. It begins with a discussion of differences between public, private, and for-profit institutions, and then looks at history, trends, perceptions, cost, attrition, regulation, and accreditation. The effects of changes in technology, marketization, and globalization upon higher education create ongoing challenges that private and for-profit entities must address.
