ABSTRACT

Federal laws governing discrimination in the workplace (e.g., the Civil Rights Acts of 1964, 1991; the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967; the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990) were created as a result of the long history of hostility toward and unfair treatment of members of several demographic groups in the workplace. The purpose of these laws is to reduce the influence of unfair discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, nationality, age, disabilities and so forth on Americans’ opportunities for employment and for fair treatment in the workplace.
