ABSTRACT

In Chapter 10, Doverspike, Arthur and Flores (this volume) provided a thorough overview of equal employment opportunity (EEO) pay analyses. In this chapter, we focus on four decision areas specific to the application of regression to evaluate pay disparities: (1) deciding aggregation level, (2) conducting pooled regression analyses, (3) transforming compensation and (4) adjusting salary. Our positions are based on academic understanding and practical experience; however, others may disagree with some of our recommendations. As such, we strive to provide just treatment of different approaches by highlighting their advantages and disadvantages and leave it to readers to determine their preferred approach. We begin with a primer on regression procedures in the EEO pay analysis context followed by discussions of the four content areas.
