ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about 21 years old disabled young athlete named Jay. Sports lessons in school were always a confusing time for him as, although he loved sport in general, he hated having to partake in 'girly' sports such as netball and dancing. He also opted to take courses focusing in sports studies in school. The school tried to prevent him from studying sport, but he demanded equal access. From the age of 14, he was a member of the Army Cadet Force (ACF) and participated in many sports through the organisation. Jay found an advertisement for a Paralympic event that promoted various sports and attended. It was decided that he was to remain as a female for competitions, despite the imminent physical changes. He could feel it running round his body as he started to experience physical and emotional changes. His physical state deteriorated, and he began to become extremely unfit again.
