ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights key themes associated with existing knowledge about relationships in sport and physical activity. It then introduces ideas about flourishing relationships and how their cultivation within sport and physical activity (PA) settings may elicit particular consequences and benefits. Drawing upon contemporary findings in positive psychology in the areas of gratitude, caring and forgiveness, selected key strategies and interventions are presented to support the development and maintenance of positive and productive interpersonal relations in sport and PA. Finally, we propose several avenues for future enquiry and research so that we may better understand and develop positive relationships in sport and PA settings.
