ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to provide how people understand positive psychological interventions in sport and exercise settings. Sport and exercise psychology and positive psychology resemble sets of rail tracks built in parallel and crossing over. Though these tracks often lead people in different directions, their common goal remains to improve the lives of those who use them. The chapter deals with understanding the self and others as well as the need for positive change in our lives. Embracing positive psychology ideas and interventions within sport and exercise psychology consultancy seems sensible when we examine the goals of each field. The intervention through which Graeme's awareness emerged was open dialogue, in a face-to-face meeting with a foundation of unconditional positive regard, close attending and paraphrasing to facilitate interpretation. Positive psychology interventions aim to nurture positive feelings, behaviors and cognitions. Sport and exercise psychology travels in the same direction as positive psychology.
