ABSTRACT

Passion in positive psychology has often been associated with a number of outcomes such as affect, well-being, interpersonal relationships, and expert performance. This chapter posits how passion also matters in the psychology of sports and exercise, with outcomes related within the educational realm. We present two channels through which passion can lead to adaptive and maladaptive consequences in sport and exercise and affect classroom-based interactions within athletes following sports-study programs. Avenues for future research within the dual perspective of sport and school would appear to have important implications and may vary as a function of the type of passion (harmonious versus obsessive).
