ABSTRACT

Passage for Par was an outdoor performance event with a cast of thirty women that took place three times over three days in June 2018 at the turn of the tide. Passage for Par was commissioned by the Cornubian Arts and Science Trust for the Groundwork program that bought international art to Cornwall in the South West of the UK. Cornwall is a large coastal county in the UK, well known for its scenic beaches and cliffs, and as a holiday destination. The coast of Par has a specific context and was chosen over and above other popular tourist sites in Cornwall for its reminders of the county’s industrial past: the Kaolin refinery overlooks the beach and is part of its sedimented history in the glittering sand. Many of the performers referred to their memories of people and place as they moved within the landscape.
